Mid-Year Market Outlook for 2024: Fundamental vs Technicals Perspective

Join the STA, ACI UK,  The Broker Club and Commodity Trading Club for what promises to be an interesting and lively debate where technical and fundamental analysts give their view on the outlook for markets in the second half of 2024.

Audrey Childe-Freeman
Audrey Childe-Freeman is Chief G10 Currency Strategist for Bloomberg Intelligence, based in London, with expertise in G10 FX, macroeconomics and central banking. Before joining BI, Audrey was the founder, Managing Director and Chief Strategist of FX Knowledge Ltd. Prior to FX Knowledge, she was head of Foreign Exchange Strategy at BMO Capital Markets and global head of Currency Strategy and European head of Currency Strategy at JP Morgan Private Bank. In previous roles, Audrey was Senior Currency Strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman and Head of European Economics at CIBC.

Murray Gunn
Murray Gunn, MSTA, CFTe, CEWA, is Head of Global Research at Elliott Wave International. He worked as a fund manager in global bonds, currencies and stocks, including long posts at Standard Life Investments and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Prior to joining EWI, he was Head of Technical Analysis at HSBC Bank. Murray is the author of the 2009 book Trading Regime Analysis and a contributor to Socionomic Studies of Society and Culture (Socionomics Institute Press, 2017). Murray is at the helm of Global Rates & Money Flows and The European Short Term Update. He also provides commentary for EWI’s Global Market Perspective.

Paul Horsnell is the Head of Commodities Research at Standard Chartered Bank, leading a team that covers the key metals and energy markets. He was previously Head of Commodities Research at Barclays, and Head of Energy Research at JPMorgan. Prior to becoming a financial analyst, Dr Horsnell was Assistant Director for Research at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies where he authored books on the Brent oil market and on Asian energy markets, and Praelector in Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford.  He is a former Chairperson of the British Institute of Energy Economics and holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and a doctorate in Economics from Oxford University.

Trevor Neil FSTA, Fund Manager, Consultant Technical Analyst & Institutional Trader
Trevor Neil is a Fellow of the Society of Technical Analysts and an ACI member. He started his career at 18 as a floor trader for Meryyl Lynch on the floor of the London Commodities Exchange. He has been an institutional trader ever since. He has twice managed large hedge funds, trading futures and equities systematically. He was on the board, which created the STA and served under the first five chairmen. For four years he was Global Head of Technical Analysis at Bloomberg. He is a director of RRG Research BV. Currently, he is a fund manager and the Technical Analyst at EnBW, the large German utility, and works with institutions worldwide, integrating technical analysis into their work processes. He has presented the popular monthly webinar Trevor Neil’s Technical Analysis Surgery, hosted by the London Stock Exchange Group for nearly 20 years.

Sam Horowitz (Moderator)
Sam Horowitz’s nearly 30 year career in the financial markets has spanned a variety of trading and management roles across sellside, buyside and intermediary businesses. Prior to his current role advising CMC Markets on the next stages in their journey into the wholesale markets, he headed up Global Markets eFX Trading at BBVA, with previous stints building and managing trading businesses at Rabobank, UBS Asset Management, Louis Capital FX, Lloyds Bank and Marex Spectron adding to his broad cross market and cross asset experience.
