Alan Attwood RIP – June 2017
Alan Attwood, former ACI UK President and long-standing supporter of ACI Financial Markets Association, has died after a long illness. On behalf of ACI, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family at this time. Alan was a well known figure in the UK and wider FX community. His career began in the back office of British Bank of the Middle East, from where he moved to the dealing floor. BBME was later amalgamated with HSBC, and after 14 years Alan moved to Credit du Nord in London as Chief Dealer. He then joined Raiffeisen Zentralbank and in 1990 moved to Chartered West LB. Alan took early retirement in 2006.
In addition to Alan’s enormous contribution over many years to ACI – he had roles in the UK and globally from 1980 to 2007- following his retirement he also became a barker for the Variety Sunshine Coach Appeal. For many years Alan was involved in the ACI UK Annual Charity Golf Day which has to date raised funds to purchase 54 Sunshine Coaches for deserving schools and institutions in the Greater London area. The 2017 Golf Day is taking place on July 3rd and we will pay tribute to Alan appropriately at this event.
In 2012, Alan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and in subsequent years he has been looked after by his family, and latterly in a residential facility. His son and family have been active fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Society throughout his long illness.
Sue Attwood, Managing Director of ACI UK, said “Alan made a great contribution to ACI UK over many years and will be very much missed. Following Alan’s diagnosis in 2012 we have maintained contact with his family and were delighted that Alan was able to attend our summer party a couple of years ago, along with his wife Karen and son Stuart. A true gentleman, consummate professional and great ally, friend and colleague, Alan made an impact on everyone he met, professionally and personally. May he now rest in peace. We shall miss him”.
Alan’s funeral will take place at 1.30 p.m. on July 10th, at Beckenham Crematorium. ACI UK will be represented at the funeral; former friends and colleagues are invited to contact Alan’s son, Stuart Attwood, for further information. Contact details: attwood@hotmail.co.uk / 07957 903019
